Keywording
In general, when you’re shooting it is best to shoot in sets of images that would make keywording easier. For example, if you’re on the expo floor, take a series of images showcasing the expo floor and then move on to taking ‘branding’ shots. For most instances, you’re probably going to be shooting a specific thing like a keynote for an hour and those images should be keyword accordingly. When you’re roaming freely, keep in mind on shooting images in sets so that the keywording makes sense and is efficient.
Here is how you should rate and keyword your photos when you’re shooting for us. With the volume of work and assets we produce for events, rating properly with the right keywords will help everyone find good assets faster.
For keywording, don’t apply keywords upon importing the photos from your cards. Applying the same keywords on all the assets isn’t as useful as applying a small subset of keywords to a selection of specific images. Keywording guidelines are broken into two areas, one for large conferences and the other for all of the other types of shoots:
For conferences use these keywords:
- City (can be all photos from the event) and Venue (can be applied to all photos from that venue)
- ‘Keynote’ or ‘General Session’
- ‘Workshops’ or ‘Breakout Sessions’
- ‘Awards’
- ‘Reception’
- ‘Team Building’
- ‘Entertainment’
- ‘Registration’
- ‘Expo’
- ‘Branding’
- ‘Sponsors’
- ‘Environmental’
When you’re shooting a conference, it is good to keep in mind to shoot in sets so that the images are sequential when you apply the keywords.
