“The Bean” (Cloud Gate)

I got to make it back to Millennium Park this afternoon where I shot a different model about a year ago. The Bean of course is one of the signature art pieces in the park and is nearby the Frank Gehry designed Jay Pritzker Pavilion. This was just a ‘where’s waldo’ style shot I took underneath since I really love the flow of how the scene shifts as you walk and stare upwards. Since I had a [...]

at work…

My friend Walt Ostarly took this series of shots of me working while covering the 2007 Junior Nationals in Chicago, IL this past weekend. Now there’s proof that I was actually working. Covering bodybuilding and fitness shows and shooting stage shots can be a bit tedious because of the amount of volume of shooting. However, the fitness routines are enjoyable since they are a bit of a challenge to shoot with all the movement.

Bug Spider

This is a work by David Fambrough who used to live in Reno, where it is installed on a rooftop next door to the SPCA. I was shooting with Lindsey Cope nearby when I noticed it. If you’re interested, apparently you can buy his other similar piece in the :bug car: series: Tarantula.

Contests

I am really terrible about entering contests but i am making more of any effort this year. It’s something that if i had more time, it would be an enjoyable experiences to go through my work and pick some favorites. alas, time not being on my side, it was a rush job to enter this recent contest hosted by the Artist Wedding Photojournalism. See more of my entries.

The Governator and da Mayor

Today our Governor was in town as a guest of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce. He was introduced by former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown and the Democratic Brown headed praise upon our Republican Governator. Here are the two of them after the speech and Q&A session back stage.

Custom Stock Photography

We’ve done a lot of work shooting custom stock for various companies who don’t want to pay the royalties for stock photography. This was an outtake from a law firm and if I had to keyword it, I would call it: “Reading a book to a skeleton”

Fareed Zakaria in San Francisco

Yesterday Fareed Zakaria was the opening keynote speaker at PCBC 2007. Having read his work for quite some time, it was nice to get to meet him and listen in to his speech. Later in the afternoon, branding guru Martin Lindstrom spoke and as always we try to apply what we’re listening to while we’re shooting. Luckily for a photography company, location does matter and with the dynamic nature of events and quality and style of photography [...]

Bay to breakers 07

Another successful year with our photo station set up on the sidewalk. fortunately(?), there were so many people running on the sidewalk that a number of them became part of the shoot. You can see more on my blog or view the complete online gallery.

YouTubers

We shot an event for the Commonwealth Club where the two founders of YouTube, Chad Hurley and Steve Chan spoke. Afterwards there was a party at Otis and the two enjoyed a few cocktails. Both guys are really down to earth and happy to sit through being propositioned and hero-worshipped. It’s always good to see laid back guys who have hit it big and kept humble…

Actress Annette Benning

Annette Benning took part in City Arts and Lectures at the American Conservatory Theater this week. She was a wonderfully polite woman who we overheard offered to take her own cab to the airport, to not inconvenience her hosts, but they insisted they take her themselves. She stayed to the very end of the reception making sure to say hello to everyone and was happy to take photos with whomever wanted a shot.
