Jen Whitney, one of our former Oranges who’s gone back to photojournalism grad school at the top school in the nation – the University of Missouri – recently got her first front page lead photo for the Columbia Missourian. While we miss Jen here, she’s getting valuable experience and learning a lot about farm animals and 4H to boot – things we definitely were not able to teach her here at Orange!

So I went to check out The Matthew Barney Show at BOCA and thought it was pretty cool. As I was perusing the various pieces, there was one collage in the smaller room that had all sorts of pix of Matthew and his girlfriend Bjork. I noticed that one of the shots was actually one I took for the SFMOMA where his Drawing Restraint 9 is exhibiting (and coincidentally where I will be in about ten minutes).

The last couple weeks I was out on the East Coast shooting in NYC, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, PA. It was also in the middle of the nationwide heat wave and it was hot everywhere. This was a shot from an after party at Salon in NYC on Saturday night…

On the Road…

Well, July has been crazy since I personally have been on the road much more than back in San Francisco and the worst part is that I haven’t given myself the time to enjoy the travels. Jack and I were invited to be panelists at an event hosted by ASMP Norcal about event photography. It was a great opportunity for us to share how we’ve been able to grow Orange successfully as a photography brand. Topics discussed included marketing strategies, a look at the state of event photography today, as well as leveraging technology and what it takes to make it in the competitive market. Much of what was brought up we covered [...]

Matthew Barney at SFMOMA

We shot the opening for the Matthew Barney exhibition at SFMOMA last night and it was a really great event. Of course his girlfriend Bjork was also on hand and the whole fourth floor had been transformed so the space really felt opened up.

49ers

Tuesday night we shot the kickoff party for the Alex Smith Foundation which the 49ers quarterback was on hand to promote along with his inspiration, Antwone Fisher. On hand were also 49ers quarterback coach Norv Turner and the 49ers owner John York as well as numerous players and former foster care kids. We’ve been bouncing around an idea for a social photography project related for foster kids so this was the perfect event to help move that [...]
