San Francisco Rising

We covered the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake and Fire centennial commemoration for the San Francisco Chronicle yesterday and it was quite a day long festivity. It all kicked off at Lotta’s Fountain on Market St. and the highlight for me was Norma Norwood (pictured above) who was actually conceived in Golden Gate Park because, according to her, her parents were cold and homeless as a result of the ‘quake and had to cuddle. You know what cuddling [...]

WPPI after the expo…

So after the expo we finally had a chance to relax and enjoy a bit of the pool at Bally’s. After grabbing a Guinness, we sat down and then the towel ball strolled by…

Big News!

Today Orange is proud to announce with Mayor Gavin Newsom and new spokesperson John Travolta on hand, that Orange Photography has been named the official photographers for the city of San Francisco and for Scientology worldwide. This historic venture positions Orange on the cutting edge of photography in one of the most progressive cities, and with what is perhaps one of the more controversial religions in modern history. With unprecedented access, Orange will embark on an ambitious [...]

Jordanna

I got a letter from Jordanna Thigpen, a democratic candidate running for office in our district, and i was pleasantly please to know that that my photography was doing something good. it’s easy to get lost in the business and art of photography in our current context but at the end of the day, i am mainly interested in using my photography to do some good in this world. we will see how ‘good’ manifests but it [...]

pushing engagement sessions

Before the wedding season gets into full gear, i’ve been enjoying some of the engagement sessions. Since my shooting style is quite different from during the wedding day, i try to push the couple to being a little ‘unreasonable’. I typically use my bad humour to make put them at ease then ask them unreasonable acts of sillyness to create a moments of non attention (that is to me). The results are reasonable but it would seem [...]

Orange everywhere

Today I didn’t have a shoot so I ran errands around town and managed to swing by the SFMOMA where I crossed paths with Brad Bird as he was heading down the stairs. It’s strange that I’d run into him twice in two weeks. Then at Dolores Park, I realized that in today’s Sunday New York Times, there’s a photo of Jim Buckmaster, CEO of Craigslist taken by Orange. We’ve been published twice in the Gray Lady, [...]

xeno kids

We shoot a lot of events where there are various performers doing their stuff. One of the ones I always enjoy is the Xeno performance collective. This girl in particular always catches my attention and I know that Orange photographers have got all sorts of cool shots of her.

Bhutan – Kingdom in the Clouds

Tonight we shot a WWF event to benefit conservation in Bhutan and there’s a great matching program going on. I’m going to try and link to the press release for it, but if you are in the Bay Area and interested in helping out, there’s a lot of good information here or on the Lonely Planet site.
