Orange’s own Andria Lo has two photographs that have won inclusion in the 7×7 Magazine Bring on the Night Photography competition. The reception and auction will benefit SF Camerawork, a local photography non-profit so come out and support them next week!

Now that was an earthquake!

2017-07-24T20:48:28-07:00By |Categories: Point of View|

Well, just got back from photographing at City Hall for the Mayor’s reception of Aer Lingus which just started service to San Francisco. The studio was shaking quite a bit and I heard something crash upstairs. My earthquake bobblehead was even bouncing a bit… (re-enacted in the photo above). This was the biggest shake I’ve personally felt in my nine years in San Francisco and it lasted pretty long!

Control/Anton Corbijn

Photographer Anton Corbijn’s debut as a director is Control, a biopic about Joy Division lead singer Ian Curtis, and it’s a wonderful film. Having been heavily influenced by the Manchester sound and aesthetic, it was nice to see this film and how Corbijn treated the subject matter. The film is infused with the music and feel of 1970’s Manchester (Macclesfield, more specifically) and those who are familiar with that era and time will get a kick out [...]

Japan Society threesome

2017-07-24T20:48:28-07:00By |Categories: Point of View|

We covered the Japan Society of Northern California’s 2007 Award of Honor Gala. I wasn’t quite sure what the crowd would be comprised of but was a bit surprised to see San Francisco 49er Vernon Davis there. He was probably the most well known person as well as the two honorees, Mr. Yuzaburo Mogi and Mr. Philip Kan Gotanda.

We’re happy to once again be hosting Fotovision for their next workshop entitled: Reinventing Travel and Stock Photography for a Brave New World. Here’s a quick synopsis of the program: “Fotovision has an upcoming workshop on Nov 11th with Bob Holmes: Reinventing Travel and Stock Photography for a Brave New World and we now have a space for that workshop at Orange Photography. I think this will be a great workshop for new and seasoned photographers alike. [...]

More Olympians and Best-Selling authors

2017-07-24T20:48:28-07:00By |Categories: Point of View|

We shoot a lot of events and popular speakers are Olympians. For some reason we seem to get more Winter Olympians than Summer, and at Riverbed’s Accelerate ’07 this week in San Francisco, Vince Poscente, an Olympian and author of The Age of Speed: Learning to Thrive in a More-Faster-Now World gave a nice presentation about speed, a relevant topic for the conference. He was pretty dynamic and energetic and seemed to do a great job with [...]

ah, beef

This is in dialogue with the Gyro poster blog entry. I found these faded posters in the window of a seedy butcher shop. The kid is totally creepy!

Octavia Boulevard at night…

2017-07-24T20:48:29-07:00By |Categories: Point of View|

Had a chance to show a guest from out of town around our city, and while relaxing in the park on Octavia Boulevard just snapped off a shot of some hipsters taking their dog out for a midnight run in the park. We’ve been doing a lot of gigs at night as usual, but most are indoors so it was kind of nice to be out and taking some shots just for fun of our wonderful city.

Girlstock

Orange was on hand to capture the 5th Annual Girlstock in downtown Oakland as part of our social photography program. An excellent opportunity to see some local talent at intimate venues, plus the proceeds benefit two great organizations, The Positive Resource Center and Pets Are Wonderful Support. My favorite were the completely mesmerizing, sword-balancing Suhaila Salimpour belly dancers.

Gyros and Stock Images/Licensing…

2017-07-24T20:48:29-07:00By |Categories: Point of View|

So I am wondering if everyone else is as familiar with this woman holding a gyro as I am (excuse the cell phone image quality here). It seems every time I’m somewhere that there’s a restaurant serving gyros, I see this exact sign. I am not sure if the gyro stock imagery market is small or if this is truly the best and/or cheapest image, but this woman is ubiquitous (she’s even on MySpace!). Anyhow, I hope [...]
