real estate photography interiorsPhotography has been used to sell real estate for a long time, but there’s a lot more to it than just taking a shot of the space. While digital cameras have enabled almost anyone to take photos, when shooting real estate (interiors and exteriors) it’s important to keep several things in mind.

First off managing parallax is critical so that the vertical lines are all straight up and down. If they are not, the space/building can look odd.  A tilt-shift lens can help or you can also straighten things out in post-processing.  You can also just take care to make sure your verticals are straight on both sides of the frame as you set up the shot.

Another important aspect in real estate is the staging.  This unit was staged by UpStage! Staging a unit can really enhance a sale since it will look like it could look if someone were to purchase the property vs. an empty room which might look larger, but is harder to envision living in.  There’s a lot more to it such as lighting and such, but we’ll go into more detail in future blog posts.  (One thing if you noticed is that you have to make sure you don’t leave anything unecessary in the shot – do you see my iPhone I accidentally left in this outtake?)
