These two are so cute together and we had a fun time in North Beach for their engagement shoot.  I’m really looking forward to their wedding as they have so much warmth between the two of them.  I used to be a bit ambivalent about engagement shoots but have found they are a great way to try new things.  Most couples probably haven’t had their portraits taken together (or else they probably have done it a LOT), so they don’t know quite what to expect.  Add on the fact that it can be a bit awkward to be out in public doing a shoot, and you have the perfect opportunity to push things. When I look at locations I mostly look at textures, shapes and colors.  I don’t care so much what it looks like from the naked eye, but try to think of what those elements would look like in a final image.  In this case the first image was obvious since we had the iconic Transamerica Pyramid as part of the background.  On the following image I looked at the textures of the church to use as compositional elements as well as the angles of the spirals on the columns:

For this final shot, we were first shooting inside the cafe, but I walked outside and wanted to get some sorta signage or something to signify where we were and decided to frame them in the reflections on the glass under the “Caffe” type.  I really like how it turned out!
