Microsoft + Titanic = ???

2006-09-07T11:42:01-07:00By |Categories: Personal, Point of View|

Last night we shot an event for Microsoft at the Metreon and it took place at the Titanic – The Artifacts Exhibit which is a pretty cool installation. I guess it’s been mega-popular as the stay has been extended until Jan 2007. There are some interesting facts and of course the historic pieces that are part of it give you a great feel for what it must have been like in 1912. I overheard some folks saying [...]

What camera should I buy?

2017-07-24T21:19:11-07:00By |Categories: Point of View|

I have to say that one question you get a lot of is “What camera should I buy?” I’ve seen this question posted on numerous message boards as well as our email inboxes time and time again. While we use professional digital SLRs, we don’t generally use the digital point and shoot compact cameras as much so we don’t have as much experience making recommendations in that arena. However, one that I’ve personally used and own is [...]

Assistant’s View

2006-09-04T21:07:53-07:00By |Categories: Point of View|

I think one of the cool things about assistants aside from the help and insight they can provide during a shoot is that they get shots of you working. It’s funny to see what you look like while you work and to think about what was going through your mind at a particular point in time. I know I was thinking that I wish I could have been both at the far end of the aisle up [...]

Only in San Francisco

I love when I have a different idea of what a shoot might be like and it surprises me. You try to be prepared but sometimes you have pleasant surprises like when I was walking to my shoot this morning and came across Glenda the Good Witch giving directions to a tourist…

Wired Magazine

So we recently blogged about our former Oranger Jenn Whitney having a front page lead photo but catching up on my reading this week, I saw that she’s also featured in last month’s Wired Magazine (August 2006). It’s a photo of Jen posing with a Kodak digicam at the Wired Rave Awards party that we shot for them. Then later in the same issue are more photos we took from that event as well. Upcoming, we’re featured [...]

We’re Five!

So it all kind of creeped up on us, but our fifth anniversary just happened and we decided to have a little party at the studio… Here are some shots from the birthday party:

Have camera, will travel…

One of the great things about being a photographer is the exposure to different experiences that you may not otherwise have. This past weekend I was fortunate to photograph a wedding where the bride and groom had the great idea to go sailing after the ceremony. We set sail on the Chardonnay II in Santa Cruz for a two hour cruise on a perfect sunny Friday afternoon. Although shooting on the yacht wasn’t the easiest thing, it [...]

Orange girl makes good!

2017-07-24T21:19:11-07:00By |Categories: Personal, Point of View|

Jen Whitney, one of our former Oranges who’s gone back to photojournalism grad school at the top school in the nation – the University of Missouri – recently got her first front page lead photo for the Columbia Missourian. While we miss Jen here, she’s getting valuable experience and learning a lot about farm animals and 4H to boot – things we definitely were not able to teach her here at Orange!

Art imitates life imitating art?

So I went to check out The Matthew Barney Show at BOCA and thought it was pretty cool. As I was perusing the various pieces, there was one collage in the smaller room that had all sorts of pix of Matthew and his girlfriend Bjork. I noticed that one of the shots was actually one I took for the SFMOMA where his Drawing Restraint 9 is exhibiting (and coincidentally where I will be in about ten minutes).
