The Youth Orchestra celebrated it’s 25th anniversary and ask us to do some portraits their press releases. Even young musicians had busy lives and i only had a few minutes with each of them; such is the nature of ‘celebrity’ portraiture. I tried out a new portable lighting trick – two 580 flashes and an umbrella and i like the results thus far.
_after _before With the volume of work they do, while trying to maintain a high standard of artistic expression, i’ve been a big fan of adobe’s recently launched lightroom. It’s an superbly design program that takes the tedium out of working with so many images. I could go on for a couple of hours about it but any one working with a lot of imagery these days should consider downloading it and trying it out.
We had a big corporate job on alacratz island yesterday and had some fun with our test shots.
The wedding season is also full year here in the bay area and certainly the smart couples do it during off peak season. Personally, I rather photograph them in the off season because the sun is awful in Napa during the summer months ; )
I’ve been down in San Diego at the famous Hotel Del Coronado for one of Orange’s biggest engagement to date. We’re making a more concerted effort to enter a number of contests this year and WPJA is a great organization that a number of our wedding photographers are a part of. I like the fact that they don’t take anyone that is willing to pay them money and there are photo journalistic standards that they up hold. My post production style has evolved over the years and the past several months have been heavy on this particular look. As much as I love black and white, sometimes i like to throw in some shades of metallic greyscale.

It’s not every wedding that you stumble a upon a room that transports back 30 years. When i saw this room, with it’s green tones, i felt like i could produce an image worthy of a full magazine spread.
You may have seen her before but it’s hard to resist those big eyes and contagious smile.
