While Orange primarily works in the Bay Area, we spread nationwide when we can. We wouldn’t be able to do that without the help of some of our out-of-state talent. Over the next couple months we are going to introduce you to a few of those people.
Alycia grew up in Vermont before attending Fordham University, where she triple majored in Music, International Studies and French – nothing to do with photography! After graduation she lived first in China, then in Palestine teaching English & Music, but as she documented her travels she realized that photography was her true passion (yes, sounds cheesy but it’s true!). She’s now based in Brooklyn but travels often for personal documentary projects, language immersion and pure pleasure.
What do you like about working with Orange?
I’ve really loved working with Orange so far – the whole team is friendly and professional and they do a great job organizing. It’s been a real treat focusing exclusively on shooting and not having to worry about logistics and administrative back and forth with the client. I have felt prepared and supported for each job, and all of the clients I’ve interacted with so far have been lovely!
What inspires you?
People. Always people. I know special education teachers, I know taxi drivers, I know real estate agents – and all of them inspire me to live my best life inside and outside of photography.
I’m almost as obsessed with languages as I am with photography, and I spend at least an hour a half every day studying either French, Spanish or Arabic. I’m close to fluent in the first two, but I’ve got a ways to go with Arabic – I’ll get there one day, inshallah!
What’s your favorite thing about photography?
Again, people! The opportunity to meet new people and learn about their passions, whether I’m making a portrait of them or shooting an event they’re attending, is the best thing. The lens opens up these windows into people’s lives and I get to look in and see something completely different – it’s awesome.
Something most people don’t know about you?
I have French and Chinese bank accounts ^_^
Raw honey. My father and I keep bees in my home state of Vermont and I could eat raw honey all day every day.
