02 · Basic editing workflow

Import, tag, cull, and pick your best

For projects that include basic editing, work through these steps in Lightroom before you export.

Copyright field

Your Name | Orange Photography

Import all of your files into Lightroom.
Keyword your images with the venue name, photographer name, event type, and any notable details (celebrity names, magazine names, sponsors, and so on). Set the Copyright field to “Your Name | Orange Photography.” You can enter it in Library mode or apply it on import.
Cull down to 35–50 edited images per hour of coverage. Apply basic corrections such as white balance and cropping to the culled images.
Rate the best images 4 stars. They should be about 15–20% of the edited images. Choose the ones you feel are your best or that represent the event well, and give them a quick edit to make them look great. These are your “Best of” images.
Export the images as JPGs using the settings and file-naming convention below, and save them to a folder you can easily find.
