Bay Bridge moonrise

Today was spent checking out art at various galleries, including a trip to 49 Geary specifically to check out the Edward Burtynsky Quarries prints at Robert Koch gallery. If I was wealthier I would have picked one up as a gift and got some of my holiday shopping done but instead I didn’t buy anything today. The new Crouching Spider by Louise Bourgeois on the Embarcadero was another stop and it’s a nice piece, although I wish [...]

Campari Talks

2007-11-20T16:07:58-08:00By |Categories: Uncategorized|

The last of this year’s Campari Talks at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts took place on Saturday. JD Samson of Le Tigre (left) and artist/writer Emily Roysden were among the panelists discussing contemporary feminist art. Seated behind a well-placed wall of Campari bottles, the artists, I’m sure well aware of the irony, repeatedly mentioned the often anti-capitalist perspective of the art –though I think it’s great when a company can use their profits to bring [...]

Winterfest – San Francisco Bike Coalition

2007-11-19T13:01:48-08:00By |Categories: Uncategorized|

The San Francisco Bike Coalition’s Winterfest is a great benefit and a good time. The bike coalition does a lot for cyclists and transit riders in the city and since most of our Orange peeps ride bikes or take transit to the studio, we benefit from the work the SFBC does. There’s an auction of bike related gear, an art show and the Extra Action Marching Band will be playing too – check it out on Sunday [...]

Compassionate Chefs Cafe

Myleen and I donated part of our lazy Sunday to shoot this year’s Compassionate Chefs Cafe at the very delicious New Delhi Restaurant on Ellis Street. This was a lively Bollywood-themed event that benefitted both the Tenderloin After School Program in San Francisco and the Gandhi Ashram of New Delhi. We hear they raised over $16K! If you’re interested in working with Orange as part of our Social Photography program, please let us know.

AP / Paul Sakuma

You’ve probably seen the photo credit: Paul Sakuma/AP if you’ve read any news articles in the last few years. Whether it’s locally here in the San Francisco Bay Area or throughout the world, Paul Sakuma’s photos get out there. He’s an AP shooter based out here and today for Oracle OpenWorld he was shooting Larry Ellison during his keynote.

Robert Holmes | Travel and Stock Photography seminar

Robert Holmes‘ Travel and Stock Photography seminar for Fotovision at Orange was a success today. Here Bob explains some marketing strategies after a demonstration of digital railroad where his work is also featured. The seminar was pretty instructive and the group of photographers participating had some impressive portfolios of work. Ah to be a travel photographer!

Yum: wedding caterers

2017-07-24T20:48:27-07:00By |Categories: Point of View|

So we shoot lots of weddings here at Orange and of course you get to eat a wide range of meals. This past weekend I shot a wedding where Hugh Groman Catering were the caterers and the food was fantastic. The butternut squash ravioli was some of the best I’ve had and the salad was delish too. Definitely a nice team to work with as well. Here’s a pic of the bride taking her shoes off to [...]

Lauren Greenfield: Thin

2017-07-24T20:48:27-07:00By |Categories: Point of View, Projects|

Thin is a film by photographer Lauren Greenfield, a member of VII, and someone with whom I share an interest in how womens body image is affected by society and media. I first met her at her opening at Robert Koch gallery in San Francisco for Girl Culture and have followed her work since then. Thin takes a look at anorexia and follows several women in a treatment facility in Florida. It’s a documentary that is a [...]
