So we’re proud to announce that we’re doing much more pet photography now.  We’ve shot quite a few pets in the past as parts of weddings or portrait sessions so we decided to focus some energy more on pet portraiture as well.  Here’s a shot of a behind the scenes look at some pet photography we did at the studio here in SOMA.  We had in snakes, dogs, geckos and more that day so contact us about […]

Test shoots

Recently I have been doing some test shoots with local models. I have so much fun with these, scouting around and shooting on-location, and they tend to turn into mini adventures. Here are a couple from a recent portrait session with Gabriela, at sunset in Bernal Heights. Thanks much to Myleen for the help and providing very important sparks for the sparklers.

Leila Ben-Youssef - Tunisia - Beijing Olympics
I actually shot a few meets that Leila competed in while she was at Stanford and so it was serendipitous that she and I were connected once again the week before she headed out to Beijing to compete in the Beijing Olympics.  While we won’t be there covering it, we did do […]

Maryam & Ali

Kirsty was able to steal away the couple on their wedding day for an extended portrait session. I like the fashion shoot feel and can see these printed large for hanging on the wall. I’m sure they’ll treasure these photos for many many years.

Congratulations to these two. Jack shot their wedding up in Sonoma. Completely utterly gorgeous, right?

Myleen told me that a guest approached Jack at a recent wedding with, “You’re the one that makes the photos look like perfume ads!” I think that is an apt comparison.

Lighting Workshop with Glenn Matsumura

In June, we hosted a couple of Fotovision lighting workshops taught by Glenn Matsumura. I was able to attend the advanced workshop and with infinite patience, Glenn really broke all his techniques down for us. We did a bunch of hands-on stuff in the latter half and actually pulled off some great portraits of each other in the studio kitchen.

Film (analog) and the romanticism of vignetting

One of the things that’s obvious with digital when it first came out was the lack of vignetting (unless you were using a really crappy lens or toy camera). With the advent of the full frame sensors I saw a return of the vignette and with Lightroom being a popular tool and one we use quite a bit here at Orange, I’ve noticed how romantic an image can become with the vignetting. I don’t know if this [...]
