24-hour Pinball Battle Charity Fundraiser for UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals – The Myriad, SF, CA, USA
This past weekend we were proud to be a part of a fantastic event as part of our Giving Back program. We raised over $2300 during the Extra Life Gaming Marathon (so almost $100/hour) which supports Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Our local hospitals that it benefits include the UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals in Oakland and San Francisco. We’ve worked the SF hospital previously to get a Stern Star Trek pinball put into their teen lounge as part of Project Pinball so it was great to support them once again!
“I am so pleased to have seen the local pinball community – and even out-of-state participants and donors too – come together to support what I know from my work with children at UCSF to be a very worthwhile cause. The event was an all-around success, with fun all around, and the children at Bay Area UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospitals getting support from pinball gamers and the many donors who pledged their support to the kids.” Andrei Massenkoff, the 2011 PAPA pinball world champion said.
Massenkoff also works at the San Francisco hospital and has been integral to getting the event going.
While he couldn’t play the marathon, other players were somewhat relieved to know that such a highly ranked player wouldn’t be around to beat them up for 24-hours straight. In all seriousness though, the pinball tournament was quite fun for all 33 participants. During the last few hours some loopiness set in due to the nature of having to play pinball for that long, but the participants managed to do what was needed to survive and The Myriad provided plenty of food and drink options to keep players fueled up.
As the sun rose up and the tournament wrapped up, participants talked about doing it again next year so we will see if that is something we can do again and grow. For now, it’s time to rest! Below are more photos from the event!
