Surrogate Valentine – Movie Promo Shoot

By Gene X HwangPublished On: March 17th, 2011

Recently, I did photographs of Goh Nakamura – local music hero and star of Surrogate Valentine, a new feature film by Dave Boyle. I also have the honor of calling Goh my friend.

This past weekend the film made it’s world premiere at SXSW – It’s been getting a lot of great buzzzz.
I look forward to finally checking it out tonight at the *almost practically sold out* closing night show at the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival here in San Francisco!

Check out the trailer and other goodies here and here. They’ve put a lot of heart into this project – congrats to Goh and the Surrogate Valentine crew!

We shot these around several different spots in North Beach and Chinatown – climbing hills, exploring alleys, looking for interesting, yet minimal backgrounds – always composing with vertical-ness in mind for the final poster image. It was nice to hang out and get caught up with Goh, who is always a pleasure to be around…
