Last night we were happy to donate our services as part of our Social Photography program to the MDA of San Francisco.  MDA has a camp that the kids go to that’s something they look forward to each year, and the research into Muscular Dystrophy has been an ongoing battle.  To help keep this research going, and to help the kids affected by MD, it’s important […]

Helping others has always been something close to my heart and a large reason why I became a photojournalist.  That…and I love making images.  As the saying goes “a picture is worth a thousand words”.  It is a powerful communication platform that allows people to experience the story, struggles and celebrations of others around the world and sometimes in your own backyard.

Recently I discovered the word “photolanthropy” (say that three times […]

The First Exposures program is one we’ve supported for quite some time.  I remember first thinking about doing a similar idea through Orange but then found out that it was already being done well, and now I’ve been mentoring with that program for a few years.  Last month there was an auction which we had our photobooth at and it was a big hit.  But the […]

We were delighted to host the First Exposures program as the last real big ‘event’ at our old studio space at 1261 Howard in SOMA.  It was a lot of fun and I think the kids got a kick out of it.  It’s amazing all the different looks you can get in that one spot, and the kids got really creative as did the mentors.

There will be a benefit […]

Recently, we here at Orange covered a fundraising event for Breakthrough Collaborative. An outstanding organization, striving to aid eager students with their educations, Breakthrough Collaborative has this to say about themselves:

“We provide intensive academic enrichment and ongoing support to motivated students with limited educational opportunity, ensuring they are academically successful and on the path to college. Simultaneously, we train outstanding high school and college students from across the country for work as tomorrow’s teachers and urban […]

SFMOMA Teen Mural Project

Currently up on the second floor of SFMOMA is a small exhibit documenting the teen mural project advised by (atrium artist) Kerry James Marshall. The teens, all from Oakland, conceived and painted the mural over several weeks this summer with the help of Kerry, teachers, local artists and various other adults. The exhibit includes a video piece, sketches, and photographs Orange took at various meetings and painting sessions. This awesome mural’s final home, I believe, will be […]
