Gavin FB Profile
I sent this image along to Mayor Newsom’s inaguration committee about a year ago. It seems they liked it so much… they’ve chosen to use it as the Mayor’s Facebook profile shot! The choice seems very appropriate as Jack Huynh was hired to get the photograph the night of Gavin’s inauguration reception at deYoung Museum and this shot was from his speech at City Hall.  You can find the profile on […]

Happy New Year!

Wow, what a year 2008 was.  We were busy growing Orange and got to see and photograph such a variety of events, celebrations, parties and more.  Our very last shoot of the year was, appropriately, a New Years Eve bash and this was one of the shots from the last few seconds of 2008.  We’re looking forward to another great year in […]

One of the great things about shooting glitzy holiday parties (besides awesome catered food leftovers…) is having access to interesting venues. My favorites are the really old ones with original interior details. Apparently the Regency Center, built at the turn of the century, used to be a Mason lodge. You can see the Lodge level is well maintained with stained glass, red velvet wallpaper, and the carved dark beams. The City Club of SF has patterned copper […]

Being half-Japanese, but 100% American, I’ve always been fascinated about the Japanese internment during World War II.  Since I grew up away from the West I didn’t really know anyone who was interned until I moved out to California.  Well, we were hired to shoot the opening of the new Asian Law Caucus building at the edge of North Beach & Chinatown and the daughter of Fred Korematsu who was the Japanese-American who sued the US […]

Nobel prize winner Muhammad Yunus

A few weeks ago we shot the Full Circle Fund which we did as part of our Social Photography program and one of the folks on hand was Nobel winner Muhammad Yunus.  He is one of the pioneers of microfinance and was a genuinely nice and humble person as well.  We’ve been so slammed of late […]

Karl Rove is everywhere…

Well I’ve never been up close and personal with Karl Rove but he was in town last week and we had a VIP Photo session so I got to chat with him as well as John Edwards some and I have to say that Mr. Rove was much more pursuasive that I may have thought before meeting him.  He’s excellent with people and really knows how to work his own magic.  The audience that he and […]

Worlds Largest Irish Coffee

Here’s Michael Carden, general manager, and Buena Vista owner Bob Freeman looking through the World’s largest Irish Coffee glass before it is filled earlier today where they set the record.  They recently switched to using Tullamore Dew and one patron I talked to said he thought it tasted smoother and liked the current mix better than the old […]
